Japanese Knotweed is native to eastern Asia. It was introduced to North America as an ornamental plant in the late 1800s. It can be identified by its shovel-shaped leaves, zig-zag stems and creamy white flowers. It typically grows in large clumps of tall, bamboo-like canes, and harms native wildlife habitat and increases erosion along streams. Please report Japanese Knotweed in the wild to the Oregon Invasive Species Hotline. If located within Washington County, a specially trained crew will treat the infestation for free.
