The Northwestern Pond Turtle is a medium-sized, semi-aquatic freshwater turtle. They and the Western Painted Turtle are Oregon’s two native turtles. They are omnivorous, eating aquatic animals, including insects and amphibians, as well as aquatic plants. They are most often seen basking in the sun. They have been impacted by invasive turtles and the loss of habitat. In 2024 the US Fish & Wildlife service proposed they be listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.
