Joseph Fields ran a ferry at this location in the 1850s. The first Fields Bridge was built in 1862. It was replaced in 1866 will a better built bridge. This bridge washed away in the flood of 1890. A covered bridge was built in 1891. It was replaced with a new covered bridge in the 1920s. In 1953, this bridge was replaced with a concrete bridge. The current concrete bridge was built in 2017. That is six bridges in total at this site!
