Butternut Creek flows through Aloha and Hillsboro into the Tualatin River. In the early 2020s Butternet Creek area went through extensive improvements to increases the creek’s floodplain ability to store and release water. This included installing wood structures on the floodplain slow the water flow giving it time to more effectively seep into creek. In addition, thousands of bare root schrubs and trees and other plants were planted in floodplain. There is 1.8 mile Butternut Greenway Trail which provides a view of the floodplain.
