1996 Tualatin River Flood

The Farmington water gauge recorded the highest river level over the last 100 years in February 1996 at 37.2 feet. The Tualatin River at Farmington is considered to be at flood stage at 32 feet.  So, the river was a full five feet above flood stage in 1996.  The 1996 flood caused significant property damage throughout the Willamette Valley and resulted in at least eight deaths.  The flood damaged more than 100 buildings in Tualatin causing millions of dollars of property damage.  The river also overflowed the Lake Oswego Canal Headgate causing significant property damage in Lake Oswego.
