Douglas Spirea is a fast growing shrub in the rose family. It can be identified by large, pointed clusters of deep pink flowers that bloom in the summer. It is native to the Northwest, commonly found in wet areas like streambanks and marshes. Douglas Spirea propagates through seeds and through root suckering. It is sometimes confused with Purple Loosestrife. Native people used it for making brooms and hanging seafood to cook. It is also an important nectar source for hummingbirds.
