Mason Bee

Mason bees are one of approximately 500 bee species that are native to Oregon. They are solitary, but often build their nests adjacent to each other. Mason bees use mud as a building material to create their nests. Bees are critical to our ecosystem as pollinators. Unfortunately, both native bee and honeybee populations have been declining at a rapid pace due to a combination of habitat fragmentation, climate change and parasites. There is widespread movement to nurture mason bees in backyard settings by growing pollen rich native plants, creating desirable habitat, and purchasing Mason Bee cocoons.
