The Mallard is the most common duck in North America. Male Mallards have the noted green head. Mallards are found in a variety of habitats, including freshwater wetlands, marshes, lakes, ponds, and city parks. Mallards are omnivores that eat insects, aquatic invertebrates, snails, seeds, aquatic vegetation, and crops. Mallards are migratory, wintering in the southern United States and northern Mexico. Mallards pair bond from September to November, with females building nests on dry land near water. Mallards are commonly seen in the Tualatin River Watershed.
