Beaver is often referred to “nature’s engineer” due to their building of stick and mud dams. Beavers are a key part of the wetland’s ecosystem. The ponds created by their dams support a wide variety of animal and plant life. Adult beavers can weigh 40 pounds and measure more than three feet in length. Oregon is nicknamed the “Beaver State”. Beavers are common in the Tualatin River Watershed. There are widespreads efforts underway to help humans and beavers coexist in wetland ecosystems.
