West Linn has plans for site improvements that include improved parking along the Tualatin River and an accessible nonmotorized boat launch area at the mouth of the Tualatin River with a gangway and floating dock. A contract in July 2023 was approved for design review, required studies and development of a 30% complete project design.
Paddling in this area is not possible at low summer river levels due to several sections of shallow, rocky water. These sections can form Class II rapids at higher river levels.
Downriver:
Paddling two miles upriver (1 hour paddling time) on the Willamette River leads to the “Narrows”, a beautiful, rocky four mile stretch of the Willamette River. Paddling downriver on the Willamette River is limited to 1.5 miles (45 minutes paddling time) due to the impassable Willamette Falls (called Tumwata by the Grand Ronde). Willamette Falls is the second largest waterfall in the United States by volume (after Niagara Falls). The Falls are extremely dangerous and impassable. Stay away!
