The Willamette River Water trail was the first recognized water trail in Oregon (the Tualatin River was second). The Willamette Water Trail runs from Eugene (RM 187) to the Willamette River confluence with the Columbia River (RM 0). The Tualatin River enters the Willamette River at Willamette River Mile 28.4.
Paddling two miles upriver on the Willamette River leads to the “Narrows”, a beautiful, rocky four mile stretch of the Willamette River. Paddling downriver on the Willamette River is limited to 1.5 miles by the presence of Willamette Falls (called Tumwata by the Grand Ronde). Willamette Falls is the second largest waterfall in the United States by volume (after Niagara Falls). Caution: the falls are dangerous and impassable. Stay away!
